Listen, I’m not overly educated in the tech area however I was also not born yesterday. I can tell you that most gadgets are dull and grey, electronics and computer stores generally don’t have warm welcoming atmospheres and when I ask for help, my eyes usually start to glaze over once I get berated with “tech lingo” gibberish. However, companies are now changing their tunes, making gadgets more “female” attractive and user friendly. Tech retailers are trying new marketing techniques in an attempt to capture the attention of women and their spending power.
The retailers are doing everything in their power and this includes adding warm touches to merchandising, to redesigning product with the female shopper in mind and making sure that women are increasingly included in commercials and promotional ad campaigns. Companies such as Apple have produced all their Ipods in fancy pop colors, Sony’s new line of VIAO laptops are available in several female friendly color palettes and of course mobile phone companies are offering “fashion” phones, like the Nokia 7370 in all sorts of colors, smooth curvy designs, graphics and fun accessories to boot! It’s a new evolution in retail therapy for women.
Women are fully embracing technology and really using it. I admit it, I am victim - I chose to buy my self a new Kingston Slim Keyboard over a new top, and I upgraded to a new Blackberry Pearl instead of buying new boots!
