As I was shopping at Le Bon Marche in Paris, (and trust me when I say it’s nothing like the Bon in the States), I caught a whiff of a wonderful scent. Compelled and curios, I followed my nose to the fragrance department and lead myself to the Kilian counter. It was love at first sight, the stark black packaging itself probably costs more then most perfumes on their own.

The Black Masterpiece, is the debut collection of fragrances, a new brand founded by Kilian Hennessy (the grandson of the founder of Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy). The collection comprises six fragrances in three pairs: The Ingenues for women (Love and Beyond Love), The Artificial Paradises for men (A Taste of Heaven and Straight to Heaven) and two unisex scents, The Parisian Orgies (Liaisons Dangereuses and Cruel Intentions).

My senses were drawn to LOVE (Don’t Be Shy) - The fragrance is sweet, like candy and at first it comes off soft and tender, later unfolding into something more intense and sultry. The scent is a perfect combination of rose, lilac, jasmine, vanilla and musk.

You can purchase the 50 ml refillable bottle for $225 CDN and refill at the counter for $95 CDN. Or you can buy your own 1 litre fountain and do it yourself for $3000 CDN. Luckily I can refill my bottle at my local Holt Renfrew store as they are the only ones in Canada that carry this wonderful little discovery of mine.
