Google Yourself

I know this can sound a little self absorbed. But the question I am asking today is: Have you Googled yourself lately? With the rise of social networking and having the ability to display your personal life for the world to see, have you ever taken the time to check what is out there?

There are some definite pros to social networking: 1) Staying in touch, 2) It’s a communication tool, 3) Meeting people, 4) Creating business opportunities, and 5) Vast marketing opportunities. With the pros there are always cons: 1) Privacy issues, 2) Embarrassing photos and moments displayed in public, 3) People having the ability to “be someone else” and 4) ID theft.

With the ability to display your life online…having yourself come up on a Google search nowadays is pretty common. It’s become a common practice now to Google the names of people you would like to find out more information on. This may sound crazy, but potential employers often Google names of the people they are considering on hiring.

What’s the moral of the story here? I suggest Googling yourself and checking to see what comes up. You may be surprised in what you’ll discover; something in the past that will make you laugh or perhaps make you blood red in the face.
