What To Do: Bilboa, Spain

Bilbao, (Bilbo in Basque), in the North of Spain, is the largest city in the Basque Country. It’s a quiet city and inhabits just over 350,000 people. With a spin of a globe and a point of a finger, the decision was made by my boyfriend and I to venture off to this wonderful down-tempo city.

STAY:
You must stay at the 4 star Hesperia Hotel, newly built along the river and across from the Guggenheim Museum. You can’t miss it because the exterior windows are colored blocked like a Rubics Cube.

EAT:
The Basque Country is known for housing some of the best chefs in the world. On a casual evening stroll we accidentally bumped into a quaint restaurant called Yandiola.

Michelin Star chef, Ricardo Perez creates innovative dishes using the freshest of seasonal cuisine, like grilled cuttlefish with creamy Idiazabal rice, and slices of foie gras with vegetable tempura. Our romantic private dining was perfect in their stylish, modern, and minimal dining room.

SEE:
There are so many wonderful sites to see in Bilbao, it is a city that embraces the art culture and houses several great architectural structures. The Guggenheim Museum is the obvious must see as the city is best known for it.

The vast building is designed by famous architect, Frank Gehry. It’s free form, abstract curves are achieved by using thin sheets of titanium sheathing and steel frames. It’s an unbelievable site and absolutely breathtaking.
