I found modern minimal designs by a furniture company called IZM based out of Edmonton, Alberta. They use solid wood (yes not the cheap faux stuff) and they build and design pieces to last. In this day and age, things we buy just do not have a long life expectancy anymore. IZM’s intentions are to build items that don’t date and can be passed on year after year. As you know, wood wears beautifully when cared for over time.
“There definition: izm - pr. /iz’m/ - a movement concerned with the discipline of how one should live, what sorts of things exist and what are their essential natures. Our movement endeavors to create a look that we describe as prairie modern… clean lines with only functional details, low sweeping landscapes of aesthetically pleasing utility.”
Photoed here is a simple side table with slots carved into the corner for magazine and book storage. You can find IZM at 4 Living in Calgary or contact the Edmonton showroom directly if you can not find a store location.
