Everything in fashion is cyclical, like it or not and in your life time you’ll probably see a few silhouettes come and go a few times over. (Don’t let this depress you).
So here’s to no surprise, the bell bottom jean (aka sailor pant in Britain) is coming back full force, trickling it’s way to the masses via runway and celebrity endorsements. Since the 80’s this look has submerged underground for quite some time, allowing the likes of rock n roll and ripped t-shirts to take over the fashion scene along with tighter and skinner jeans. Now we are seeing the resurgence of the bells in the market place for 2008. Are you buying in?
If you’re unsure of the look remember, trends come and go and the cut may not be right for your body. Don’t force the issue or else you’ll be making some major fashion faux pas. Here are some jean rules to help you through:
1. Darker shades are more flattering overall.
2. Always try them on. Jeans sizes are not consistent from brand to brand as well the cuts will make a difference.
3. Stick to the shapes that suit you - Don’t follow a trend just because.
4. Always wash your jeans inside out and in cold. This will keep the color longer and the jeans in better shape.
5. Jeans should fit you perfectly where you are largest. Everything else can be altered.
I have one more secret tip to share. The Gap has some great bells and flares in store now for really wicked prices. For $70 CDN, they are available in two different washes, vintage blue and deep indigo. At this price point I think it’s no problem to buy two pair!
