Due to the vast population in India, it’s going to be the next pit stop for a lot of branded retailers.

Most recently in the news, Diesel Jeans has announced that it will be entering into a joint venture with Indian company Reliance Brands. The plans are aggressive: To open up several stores in India by Summer 2009.

Diesel will have the majority stake in the partnership at 51%. Here’s the timeline: The majority of the stores will pop up in Mumbai, next Delhi and then expanding to Banglore, Chandigarh and Hyderabad.
