I know I write a lot about “material things” such as fashion, dining out, electronics, what to buy, where to buy, what to wear and what not to wear. However at the same time I try to keep the site balanced by providing information on the goings on of the business world, social and charity activities as well as arts and culture. It is my mandate that partlySunny is to continue this way, not only providing you with stylish news but hopefully also offering some inspiration and insight.
This holiday season is a significant one as we are going through (some of us worst then others) recessionary times. Most people have become more cautious with their spending and some have just prioritized differently and have shifted their spending into different areas. In times like these, I feel really fortunate for what I have and I hope this is a platform for others to remember what holiday “spirit” really means.
So to get into the holiday spirit my loving partner says to me one day….”We should take a more non-commercial approach to the holidays this year and let’s focus on some charities we can help and some activities we can do together”. I have to admit, I was a little taken back by the comment as I am so use to holidays with “gift giving” but perhaps it was an expectation I placed on myself? After I came to my senses (and realized I was not going to get those new hot riding boots I’ve been eyeing), I was completely and utterly excited for the new holiday traditions he and I were going to create together.
This year it’s all about doing activities together such as card making, baking, making dinners at home, playing in the snow and attending festivals. As well as donating products and services to charities like: Spare The Cold, Beauty Nights, Home Start and the SPCA.
I wish and hope that all our readers experience a wonderful holiday season. One that leaves you with some fond memories for years to come. Be safe, and celebrate responsibly and a big ‘Thank you” to all the faithful readers for the huge support this past year.
