Keep Balance

As a part of my 2009 resolutions, being better at my time management is on the top of my list. I come home from a long day at work, I have bills to pay and laundry to do, a dog to walk and feed…it never stops. Seriously, where does the time go? Here are some ideas to get you started on your search for a LIFE:

1. Limit your TV watching. Now calm down, this does not mean you have to ban Grey’s Anatomy! You just need to be sensible and set limits and try not to overindulge. PVR it and skip through the commercials!

2. It’s ok to say NO. Really, try it. N-O means NO! Don’t over commit. There is really no need to over extend yourself when it is not necessary. If you are not totally excited about a social function, stay home! Your lack of eagerness probably means you’ll have a horrible time anyways.

3. Batch up your tasks when you can. It takes longer to do tasks one by one. Organize your tasks into “familiar” groups or by vicinity. This will make checking off your hit list run more smoothly.

4. Try not to procrastinate. Get in the habit of getting it done right away. The “I’ll leave this for now” attitude creates too many temporary places that too often become permanent. Get things done straight away and put things away while it’s on your mind before things start to accumulate into larger jobs.

5. Reduce time at the stores. When you are a savvy shopper like me, I can do a lot of it on-line. Especially when you know exactly what you want, call the store ahead of time to make sure they have stock, ask if they do free delivery, ask if they provide free gift wrapping…

6. Change your pace. If you can get certain things done during the week nights, the better. Grocery stores, shops and most services are too busy and crowded on the weekends. (You’re better off not having to elbow your way through the aisles).

7. What is your simple pleasure? Everyone’s is different. You must find that thing that completely helps you wind down after a long day. Mine is getting cozy in my pj’s with a mug of hot ginger-lemon tea with honey and writing. Getting back to basics and enjoying the simple pleasures in life is good for the heart and soul.
