He’s somebody that seems to have all the energy in the world and puts on some of the best parties in the city. Your industry insider today is Jens Marquardt from Canthrill - Move The Crowd.
Explain your job! What is it you do for a living?: The best description for my job is - International Event Management. That means I organize public and private events/parties to create countless, lasting memories. I’ve been doing this in Germany for many years. Since 2005, I have been operating out of Vancouver, however the events I create take place around the globe.
How did you get into the industry?: Must be my passion for music, people and the skill to organize. Originally, I finished my studies as an IT Specialist. But, I very soon realized that I preferred to be surrounded by celebratory people rather than in front of computers and started my own event agency.
Things you hate most about what you do?: Organizing big events means a lot of paperwork. That’s the part of the business I find hard to enjoy.
Things you love most about what you do?: The moment I look into a crowd and see genuinely happy people - It instantly provides gratitude and pays back for all the effort it took into putting together a show. Being responsible for creating unforgettable moments for so many people is a priceless experience. This comes hand in hand with the fact that many people find each other because of what I do…
How would you describe your working style?: A well organized event is a perfectly timed combination of many many details. My german style comes in handy: precision & efficiency.
What are your favorite looks? If you had to pick your favorite outfit right now, what would it include?: Similar to my favorite music. There is always a perfect song and a fitting outfit for a certain mood & moment.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?: People keep on telling me too many. Maybe 25?!
Where did you vacation last and where’s the next destination?: My last vacation brought me to the beautiful country of Belize. I was there to check a location for a planned event and discovered some amazing conserved nature. My next stops will include my favorite European destinations - Mykonos, Munich & Paris.
Are you a sweet or savory person?: The question should be Vodka or Whiskey. Vodka!
You most favorite childhood memory?: Running around naked on the beaches of northern France - where my grandparents live and where I spent many vacations when I was young.
