Memorable Moments in the September Issue

I finally was able to view ‘The September Issue’ as I’ve always had a little crush on Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue. All in all, the fashion documentary of the ‘ice queen’ was everything that I expected. It moved slowly, but you really got the true sense of the power Wintour has on the fashion industry, being a prominent decision maker and driver of business. She’s a perfectionist through and through and can single handily be responsible for the success or failure of a designer.

Here are some memorable moments and quotes that stood out and made me laugh:

“That font is so big it’s for blind people”, as she is reviewing the Sienna Miller cover choices.

She walks into the YSL Fall presentation and was a little unimpressed with the lack luster color palette. (Her famous ‘ice queen’ expression is very prominent in this scene).

You know you are in a fashion house when you hear phrases like, “the jacket is the new coat”, as the buzz words around the office.

“If fashion is a religion, as one Vogue staffers suggests, then Anna is the Pope”.

As she is reviewing a recent photoshoot spread, “She looks pregnant, I don’t like it, fix it”.

Going through a collection of pulls with a staffer. “Where’s the glamour?” Staffer doesn’t reply but has a blank stare”. Wintour, “It’s Vogue, ok? Please, let’s lift it”.

Reviewing the last minute photoshoot in the colorblocking series that involved the documentary videographer, “Looks like someone needs to go to the gym. We’ll need to photoshop that” (referring to his stomach).

Final note: Grace Coddington, Creative Director for Vogue is a visual genius and brilliant story teller.
