JOBS: Freedman Shoes, BUYER

The role demands someone with vision, good taste, fashion knowledge, persistence and a talent for innovation.

  • Plan, develop, source and select merchandise for assigned product category or brands to achieve or exceed sales and stock-turn objectives.
  • Monitors business trends, evaluates competition and interacts with store personnel.
  • Analyzes sales statistics, market trends, colors, styles and sizes as well as anticipates future trends to create appropriate product strategies.
  • Negotiates lowest possible costs to meet quality standards, quantity and delivery according to schedules.
  • Manages product replenishment and returns to vendors.
  • Understands each store’s market in order to buy and allocate product to maximize profit and company image.
  • Develop and manage procurement processes.
  • Review product lines and source new suppliers.
  • Ensure appropriate inventory lines and volume are purchased to meet demand according to different store profiles.
  • Effective liaison with vendors, district supervisors and stores staff.
  • Assist in the procurement and delivery of products by category and subcategory.
  • Expedite past due deliveries as required
  • Identifies opportunities to maximize profits, including actively seeks out new vendors and close-out opportunities.
  • Collaborate with planning to monitor inventory levels and propose seasonal promotions and markdowns.
  • Collaborate with marketing by procuring the samples required to develop advertising materials.
  • Participates in weekly teleconferences.
  • Helps the operational team at store level to reinforce product knowledge.
  • Works with marketing to develop visual merchandising strategies.
  • Visit store locations across Canada as feasible and needed

Requirements

  • Exceptional sense of fashion
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail buying experience, with direct buying responsibility
  • Footwear or apparel buying experience is an asset. (Ladies Shoe buying experience preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated.
  • Fashion driven with positive attitude.
  • Experience evaluating store needs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and make decisions.
  • Ability to maintain and enhance vendor and store relationships
  • Flexible personality and ability to manage conflict
  • Organizational and prioritization skills, with high attention to detail
