Industry Insider: Eugenia Han of Yoogi’s Closet

I am always on the hunt for good deals and I think a good consignment store is a good place to start. Meet Yoogi’s Closet, a site where you can buy and sell pre-owned luxury goods. I’ve used their services before and I was pleasantly surprised. I also have my eyes set on my next purchase. Here’s your Industry Insider profile of owner and operator, Eugenia Han.

How did you get into what you are doing now?: In 2008, I was traveling in Japan and Korea with my husband and we came across some high-end luxury consignment stores. Having a passion for designer handbags and fashion, I thought it would be a great concept back home in North America. We ended up going the e-commerce route where we could reach clients globally instead of just our neighborhood and never looked back.

Tell us one thing most people assume about what you do for a living that is complete false: People usually assume that I have a closetful of bags but I actually own about five that I use often and sell them when I’m ready for a change.

Describe your industry. What are some of the challenges and rewards?: The online consignment/pre-owned marketplace is highly fragmented. There are a lot of mom-and-pop stores along with a few larger pure online players. Unfortunately, even the larger companies struggle with merchandise authentication. We take authentication more seriously than any other business in our space as it is the backbone of our business.

I also love that we are providing a service for people who want to sell their luxury items for whatever their personal reasons are.  It is rewarding to hear positive feedback from our clients who are thrilled to discover a solution for buying and selling pre-owned designer authentic items.

What is your favourite trend and what is your least favourite?: Currently, I love bags with exotic prints or fur details but classic styles will always be my favorite.  I am not a huge fan of large bags with chunky, heavy hardware since they tend to weigh me down.

What was your last read?: Do magazines count??  I wish there was more time for books but the majority of what I read is online.

What is your most precious item? I tend not to get too attached to my possessions, but I would have to say my engagement and wedding ring. They symbolize a lot of what I am grateful for in life.

What get’s you up in the morning? I am not really a morning person, but a good cup of coffee or latte and my 21 month old daughter gets me up in the morning. Every day is a new day and I look forward and love going to the office.  It is really exciting to see what our clients send in on a daily basis!
