Happy holidays to all. (I was greeted by this cute little snow man at my local cafe and it just made my day so I had to share). Just a reminder, I haven’t left this blog. I was simply taking some time to re-group and to get started on my new venture. You can now find me at www.ShutUpILoveThis.com. I launched an online jewelry and accessories store this year and I’ll continue to blog as Partly Sunny here. It’s been double the work and the risk but it’s been double the fun and I thank you for being patient and for your continued support.

Partly Sunny’s new home is back better then ever with better content and a new fresh look. The old site will stay running with all my other blog posts archived here.

I’m a dog person, I love a strong fringe and I am obsessed with short hair on women (and not brave enough to cut mine), Christy Turlington is my favourite super model and I think less make up and more coverage of the body makes a woman way sexier. Oh and “strong” is the new “skinny” FYI. I’ve been involved with the business side of fashion since the age of 15, currently a fashion footwear buyer and running a fashion blog called www.PartlySunny.ca. Previous to that, I spent many years in both the apparel wholesale and retail environments. So here I am now, launching my first little boutique venture of my very own.

“Shut Up I Love This” is a boutique on-line jewelry and accessories store with a well edited collection of fashionable treasures. The aim is to curate a rounded selection of fashionable collections with a focus on Canadian brands. I think there is room for both independent and major brands to co-exist side by side and for both to perform well, equally.

I believe the right accessory should complete and compliment a look, not take it over. I don’t think that fashion accessories need to be overly expensive, obnoxious or of poor quality for them to be coveted. Certain pieces are usually symbolic of something to someone, and it always means something different – It’s one of the main reasons why I think jewelry and accessories are such an important part of fashion. The products I carry are all curated with my friends and loved ones in mind because at the end of the day, they are the ones who inspire me most.

Who: I wear many hats: Vancouver correspondent, FLARE; beauty editor, VitaminDaily.com; blogger, www.imtheitgirl.com

What you do: Most of my days basically consist of writing and research, although I occasionally spend two hours testing various nail polishes, lipsticks, masks, and whatever else lands on my desk. It’s a tough job, but, hey, someone’s got to do it.

Where your favorite spots are: I travel a lot and love every minute of it, but some places just feel like home. It’s hard to explain; it’s about the feeling. I love San Francisco’s hills, Paris’s Montmartre neighbourhood (pictured), Barcelona blocks, the old town of Dubrovnik, Vancouver’s seawall, and the air of the Okanagan wine country.

Trends FOR you and NOT for you: I’ve lived by the “never say never” motto but over the years I’ve discovered what works for me, and what doesn’t. I love the clean lines found with labels like Céline and Jil Sander, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t try whatever crazy thing Rei Kawakubo is doing with Comme des Garçons.

For fall, I’ll be looking to add more dramatic volumes, inspired by Lanvin’s peplums and Celine’s oversized coats. I’ll be avoiding Marc Jacobs’ chunky pilgrim shoes and anything that resembles them (my feet are already a size 9 - no need to make them look humongous!).

What are some of your favorite things:

1) My dog Bun (not just a thing, obviously);

2) My espresso machine (life-changing);

3) My silver pouch bag from the turn of the century — it was passed through four generations of women in my family; and

4) Whatever I purchased last.

Tell us one interesting fact about you: I know every plotline to every episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. And I own Star Trek-themed Barbie and Ken dolls.

It all started off with a 19th century chemise Isenberg found in Spitalfield’s market in London. In falling in love with the most coziest sleep shirt ever, she found a Canadian factory to manufacture something like it and the rest is history. Have you ever slept in your boyfriend’s/husband’s button up shirt? Well this is 1000 x times better. I like what I saw in Burberry’s FW12 ready to wear, subtle touches of studs on leather accessories.

I’m doubly excited as I get to pull forward some of my favourite footwear for the upcoming fall season.

I am a huge fan of stud work on handbags and although it seems extreme, this Christian Louboutin Marquise spiked clutch seems to work, $1295 www.net-a-porter.com

My IT boot and pick of the season and ones I have completely fallen in love with are the Chloe Studded boot, $1250, www.net-a-porter.com. I’d have to empty out my bank account for these bad boys (which I’m not prepared to do).

But, I did find a well priced version of the boot by Steve Madden (approximately $150-175), a MAJOR “real versus steal” moment.

I surely don’t mind the trend as I quite like the rough and tough detail. But of course I think you need to wear it in moderation.

Who: Founder of Style Nine to Five and Beauty Nine to Five.

What you do?: I created a fashion career website for Canada, Style Nine to Five and recently launched a beauty career website for Canada, Beauty

Nine to Five. Each day, I help companies find employees and open doors for job seekers. I also have a fabulous writing team for both website blogs where they keep you up to date on what’s hot in fashion and beauty. You also might just see me on TV (CTV Morning Live, Urban Rush) chatting on fashion trends.

Where are your favorite spots?: Deep Cove, at the top of Grouse Grind after hiking, Tofino, a little local restaurant in Cinque Terre, an area of 4 small towns along the coast on the Italian Riviera where I had the best fresh pesto, shopping in Soho, Les Faux Bourgeois on Fraser, patios in Montreal, the seawall at False Creek and the back waiting area at Vij’s Restaurant.

Trends FOR you and NOT for you: FOR me - All white. Looks like we’ll be seeing that into the fall too, anything with spikes, coloured and printed pants, colour blocking, the collar necklace, arm parties, ombre hair and coral lips. NOT for me - Hmmmmm, I like to give everything a go, but I can’t seem to get the peplum dress or skirt to work on me, and I dislike any form of the clog and too many sequins.

What are some of your favorite things?: Hiking, working out,  my family, my team at Nine to Five, a sheepskin rug at the foot of the couch (keeps my toes cozy), fresh whole coconuts, my black Marc Jacobs cross shoulder bag (so versatile), Carmex lip balm and my ipad.

Tell us one interesting fact about you: I can speak a bit of Kwak’wala, spoken by a small group of First Nations peoples. Growing up in Port Hardy, we studied that language rather than French in grade 1.

Just a few random summer things I’d like to mention before the sun disappears. There’s still a lot of time to hit the local farmer’s markets around the city. One of my favorites is the Trout Lake Market. It’s a drive from my place but I just love the lake side location - it’s pooch heaven.

You have to protect you skin from the harmful rays of the sun. I’m using a lotion called Coola that is a plant UV, organic, SPF 30 sunscreen. It’s light weight, non-pore clogging and feels nice and light under my makeup - $46.00, www.sknclinic.com

I’ve been sporting my beloved gold Michael Kors watch for the last couple years and have been looking for an update. I’ve been eying rose gold lately, it’s such a warm metal color that goes with all skin tones. During my recent trip to Los Angeles, I found this beautiful Kenneth Cole watch in rose gold with clear lucite details. Looks absolutely elegant and feels and looks “light weight” and perfect for summer attire.

So, we headed towards Capitol Hill, a densely populated, urban community close to the downtown core. I was on a mission: Find a pair of basic, black leather ankle boots to start my Fall/Winter wardrobe. We dropped into Totokaelo’s new location, a beautiful fashion, art and object store. (Don’t worry guys, Totokaelo men’s is in the works for 2013).

Totokaelo carry’s all sorts of brands: Jill Sander, Costume National, Isabel Marant, Rachel Comey and Rick Owens to name just a handful. I was in awe of their shoe wall, especially the sale section.

It wasn’t hard to find a pair of booties, it was between a pair of Maison Martin Margiela’s or Rachel Comey’s (I went with the Comey’s, on my feet). I was so happy, I was literally jumping for joy. Style Quotient caught my giddy-ness on camera for his Style Muse post.

After some shopping we hopped right next door to Odd Fellows Cafe and Bar for a quick pick me up. Great coffee, fresh salads and lemon thyme butter cream cupcakes.

All in all, a pretty fun filled day in Seattle - Now we are off to the PDX (Portland).

I found this great post from the Glamourai on D.I.Y. denim shorts and I thought it was so timely. It really helped me on the “cutting side” of things. So, I just wanted to share my denim cut off experience with all of you guys.

Step 1. Find a pair of old jeans that are nice and worn in. Mine happen to be a pair of 8 year old American Eagle Outfitter’s jeans (that I still can not believe I fit into)!

Step 2. Take a ruler to measure at least 3 inches from the inseam. I measured at least 3.5 inches just to be safe. (Now remember, I’m NOT going for ultra short). Cut along in an angle with a pair of good scissors. A pair of bad scissors will make this a frustrating process as you’ll struggle with your denim.

Step 3. Once you’ve made your first cut on one leg, I suggest trying you’re jeans on to see if you are relatively happy with your length. Then, to do the other leg, just fold them over and cut along to match the first leg.

Step 4. Once you have both legs cut to your liking, from the outseam cut a 1 inch notch into the denim and cut a sliver of a piece off the front. This is going to give you some more shortness while leaving the length and coverage on bum.

You can actually cut the notch more or less than an inch if you like. It all depends on how much thigh you’d like to show.

Step 5. Voila, give them one more try and see if the length is good for you and make mild changes. In my opinion, it doesn’t have to be PERFECT. These are relaxed, worked in, denim cut off shorts so if they are a little off here and there…I think it’s totally appropriate. Throw them in the wash for a good tumble and dry to get a fray on the cuff and trim off any access thread - You’re off and ready to go!

Emilio Pucci’s Spring 2012 runway collection was a swirl of gypsy-esque frocks.

These paisley oxfords are men’s Etro but how wonderful would they be for a woman?

I think this shirt dress by Clover Canyon is the most versatile silhouette. Drop the waist and let it loose for a more masculine look and cinch it in with a belt to show off your curves. I love how the paisley is contrasted with the stripes.

Last but not least, your iPhone can’t be left out either since dressing your iPhone no a days is just as important as putting on shoes. J.Crew has some really cute ones for only $40.

Don’t shy away this summer from paisley. Stow away the leopard and the floral prints for now and  give this new look a try.
