To The Max

The one piece of clothing you can most definitely carry over from summer to fall this year is the maxi dress. I would stay away from anything that has a floral print and stick with solids and basic colors.

You can’t go wrong with a heather gray racer-back maxi dress like this one from “Nasty Gal”. It has a flattering low scoop neckline with a pocket detail on the bust. The rayon and spandex blend makes it nice and slinky.

How I would wear it? I would cinch up the waist with a cognac colored braided leather belt, paired with matching cork or wood wedges.

Lace, Not Only For The Bedroom

Don’t put away the lace quite yet. Although lace is usually only seen in lingerie we are now seeing it in day-wear. Big fashion labels like Dior, Chanel and Valentino all displayed a load of lace in their Spring/Summer 2010 runway collections.

The trend seems to make perfect sense as the fabric is light-weight and comfortable. Not only does lace make you feel ultra sexy, it makes you feel like a lady as well. Stick with black lace for evening however to rock out a day look, I would sport a lighter shade, like my nude Lula Scalloped Lace Dress from www.shopnastygal.com
($48 USD).

Pair it up with a cardigan or blazer, flat sandals or heels. The number of combinations are endless.

Her Name is LYNNsteven

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Nicole Durnin, the owner of the new clothing boutique in Gastown, LYNNsteven. Named after her mother and brother, this boutique offers fun, flirty styles with some edge. Her all white aesthetic and custom designed racking system makes for a clean and organized shopping experience.

Currently you’ll find labels like: Paige, J Brand, Lauren Moshi, Rory Beca, Daftbird and Isabel Lu and many more. You must drop in for a visit and take a look at my 2 current obsessions:

1. The amazing circular storage room that is made of stacks of old books.

2. A Isabel Lu dress for $160 CDN that is now on sale for 20% off. The zipper ruffle details are music to my ears.

Strong Shoulders

No matter how much you want to resist it, shoulders are a big focus for fall/winter 2009. This trend of course, perfect for those lacking in the that department but obviously not recommended for those who shy away from showing off their shoulders.

Achieve the look without going over the top by going with a simple fitted dress silhouette in a solid palette. Let the strong shoulders do the talking for once and have fun with the dramatic look.

If you’re looking for a deal, I found my dress on ASOS’s clearance section  for $38.77 USD.

Sparkle Bright

The best way to shine this season is to go sequins. I know that some of you are still resisting to the 80’s come back but there is a way to support the decade without having to go totally retro. You can take simple shapes of tunics, tanks and leggings and turn them into something special with the help of sequins.

I prefer the dark sparkles, you can shine without being too out there. Although it’s usually meant for occasion, nothing is stopping you from wearing a simple sequin tunic over a pair of leggings, paired with a leather jacket during the day.

Don’t be afraid to sparkle this season!
