Why Women Make Less Than Men

November 14th, 2009 - Approximately 400 women attended the first ever all male panel conference luncheon at the YWiB Beyond Pink event, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The guys were in the hot seat however, they definitely did a great job in addressing several topics on women in the workplace and provided insight on how women can achieve their career goals.

The men on the panel:

Bob Elton - CEO, BC Hydro.
Mike Desjardins - Driver, ViRTUS.
Chris Flett  - Founder, Ghost CEO and author of ‘What Men Don’t Tell Women about business’.
Cameron Herald - Founder, BackPocketCOO.
Jason Pires - Weekend Sportcaster, CTV News.
Matt Corker - Alumni Relations Manager, Faulty of Science, UBC.
Philippe Desrochers - Career Manager, Hari B. Varshney Career Centre.

Taste Of Yaletown

Here’s your chance to try some restaurants in the Yaletown area that are participating in the “Taste of Yaletown” event going on until October 31, 2009. CIBC is the proud sponsor to this 5th annual event and partial proceeds to this event are donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Participating restaurants are offering tasting menus at fixed prices of $25, $35 and $45 allowing you to share and try a wide variety of foods. Some of my tops picks:Brix, Rodeny’s Oyster House, Section 3, and Simply Thai.

I recently tasted the Simply Thai $35 menu which included 3 tasting size appetizers, a soup, 3 entrees and a deep fried banana with coconut ice cream dessert. Needles to say, I had enough to take home for lunch the next day.

Baking Made Fun

Do you like sweets? Yes, I do. Do you like cupcakes? Yes, me too!

For bakers and for people who love to consume baked goods, Vancouver is holding its first Baker’s Market during the month of October. Inspired by traditional farmers markets in the city, this market is held indoors with lots of free parking. You’ll be able to cruise the stands of local talented artisanal bakers selling everything from cakes, Parisian macaroons, cookies, tarts, chocolates and cupcakes of course.

Some of the vendors to look forward to:  Wendy Boys Chocolates, Le Petite Cupcakery, My Chocolate Tree, Wedding Things and April Cakes.

It started October 3, 2009 and you still have a few more days to enjoy and have your cake and eat it too.
