DIY: Re-Arranging Book Shelves

Ok, I am a re-organizing fanatic. I feel like each time I re-organize, it’s like a “reset” in life. I think it’s important to shift, re-organize, and edit your space every once in a while, providing you with a new outlook and atmosphere.  I’ve been battling my bedroom bookshelf for sometime as this is the first thing I see when I wake up. The challenge living in a small condo is that you only have so much space to work with and you have to utilize your shelves where you can. Here’s the before image below, (please excuse the horrible camera skills). I felt the shelves looked “uneven” and the entire unit was too “top and bottom heavy”.

DIY: Many Uses for Tea Cups

Tea cups are no longer used just for sipping on yummy tea. These beautiful cups can be used in many ways and they shouldn’t be hidden behind cupboards.

Martha Stewart  re-uses her tea cups and makes them into candles. Great has gifts and also fun for home DIY group projects.

You can also use them as planters for small sized succulents and set them along your windowsill or on a book shelf.

I like using them to organize my jewelry. The pink one up top was a MOR Cosmetics candle and the one of the bottom was a vintage tea cup candle that was given to me for my birthday by my dear friend, www.rebeccatay.com. I used boiling water to clean out the cups and now display them on my dresser … more …

Industry Insider: Interior Designer, Gaile Guevara

I am truly excited to get this interview up this month on Interior Designer and Photographer, Gaile Guevara. She’s obviously very talented and I absolutely admire her style and her work.

How did you get into what you are doing now?: As a kid I was inspired by my father and his love of using only the best graphic art tools. I was spoiled with using Pantone felt pens on quality vellum while my kindergarten classmates played with Crayola on craft paper. My artistic side was influenced by my father who was a graphic designer and technical drawing specialist for Albertan Oil companies, developing machinery in the tradition of manual drafting before computer software. My father is an inspiration for his attention to details. My education roots stem from a … more …

Lola’s New Home Sweet Home

Lola Home and Apparel - I have always loved the store but I found it was simply too small. Now, Lola has a new home and it’s pretty darn sweet. With 4 times larger space, they can now properly show all their amazing product, including an entire section dedicated to kids, ladies apparel and bath and home.

Besides being the destination for Burberry infant apparel, Lola also showcases collections by local designers, Carlie Wong and Jason Matlo along with other labels hailing from Paris and Denmark. Since the expansion, you can now consider this Crosstown store as your one-stop-shop “boutique” store.

Think Outside The Chalkboard

With Idea Paint you can turn almost any flat surface into a dry erase board. $29.99 gets you enough paint to cover 6 sq. ft. and it’s as simple as it sounds - paint the surface of your choosing to convert into a doodling, brainstorming, note-taking haven. From “drywall, plaster, tables, bikes, garden gnomes, small ceramic cats” all you have to do is prep and prime the surface before you start. IdeaPaint will be as smooth as the surface you paint.

Save the environment by minimizing paper waste and there’s no need to worry about toxic chemicals.  It is formaldehyde-free, and releases no harmful gases once it’s dry.
