Paris Comes To NYC

Already open, the GAP has teamed up with the ever so hip Parisian boutique, Colette to create an installation for GAP’s concept store in New York City.

Items that are currently carried by Colette such as their signature candles, room fragrances, CDs, artist products and very hard to find product from all over the world, will be made available at this NYC location. Located next to the NYC GAP Flagship store, they will be showcasing the first US based Colette store, releasing new stock every week for the month long opening.

You better move fast, if you can’t get to Paris, at least get over to NYC. This collaborative effort will only run until October 5th, 2008.

Chain Gang

Looking for a ring that would be causal for day and stunning for night? Luc Kieffer’s fashion accessory line probably has some of the most unique pieces I’ve seen in a while.

Kieffer established himself in the business with early partnerships and collaborations with the likes of Yves Saint -Laurent and Chanel. Now his mesmerizing collections are making huge and recognizable splashes in the fashion scene.

Everything is handcrafted and the collections are carefully created using a unique combination of materials. Here is a list of places where you’ll find some of these fabulous pieces, including the one photoed here with the nifty chain detail:

Canada - Holt Renfrew
USA - Nordstrom and Henry Bendel

Joyful Joyful

Ayo calls herself an African Gypsy. Born to a Nigerian father and Romanian Gypsy mother, Ayo’s music is a mix of cultural heritage; soul, folk, afro beat and reggae music.

Her album “Joyful”, has reached platinum status in France and her popularity has been spreading throughout Europe like wild fire. A lovelorn song, her first single released is called “Down On My Knees” and the second called “Only You” which is a sweet ode to her son.

In a world of of over synthesized music and complicated beats, listening to her raw, world-beat is refreshing.

What To Do: Paris, France

STAY:

The Hotel Therese is perfectly located in Paris’s elegant Right Bank: the Louvre, rue St Honore and the Opera are close by. It’s a classic yet contemporary hotel with small rooms, however with a lot of character. They still use old fashion iron keys for their doors and I had room 306 with French windows that opened up to a serene garden.

EAT:

So many places to eat in Paris! They have more cafes and restaurants on every street, than we do Starbucks on every corner! If you’re looking for a hip crowd or just in the mood to people watch, I suggest dining at the Hotel Costes. The rooms are furnished with regal, red velvet arm chairs and you dine by tall candle lights. Later at night, it turns into … more …

The King of Kong

While in Paris I dined at the visually stimulating restaurant Kong, decorated by Philippe Starck, soundtrack by Beatrice Ardisson with Fumiko Kono in the kitchen.

The decor was planned perfectly: Imagine Hello Kitty set back in Elizabethan times. In the bathroom is a Sumo attendant, pink golden arm chairs, epidermic tables, a field of orchids at the bar, and the best view of the Seine river sitting under a glass roof dating from the 1900s.

My recommended dinner plan: Start with the Seafood Miso King Soup and the Tomato Di Buffalo Mozza Salad, next the Chilian Sea Bass with Black Rice and finish with a simple Strawberry and Sugar delight!

Did I mention it’s also across the street from the Louis Vuitton headquarters?
