After reading the book “Eat Pray Love”, I’ve been wanting to head back to Italy to visit Naples so that I can taste their world renown pizza. Well, since Nicli Antica Pizzeria opened in Gastown, I didn’t have to go far for some authentic Naples pizza. The space is very inviting, crisp and simple with really high ceilings. If it’s busy you can just stand by the bar and have drink before getting seated.
My boyfriend and I started off our meal with the Insalata Mista ($7, mixed greens, roasted garlic, roasted tomatoes & shaved fennel drizzled with our red wine dijon vinaigrette) and Insalata Proscuitto e Rucola ($12, prosciutto, arugula, roasted pear, cambozola, balsamic-fig vinaigrette). Since my partner in crime has a secret love affair with prosciutto he went with the Prosciutto … more …
Well, technically not exactly on the beach but fairly close to water. Sea Monstr Sushi is a new joint that opened up in Gastown by Boneta partners Mark Brand and Alex Usow. Now you don’t have to go far to find some good quality sushi in the G-Town hood.
The space is an efficient 585 square foot with 2 small tables and stool seats at the back and bar seating along the front. No cocktails but they do serve up Sapporo beer on tap. It’s the perfect place to grab a quick bite, it’s not exactly a place to hang out for long periods of time - It’s eat, pay and go. Cash only by the way.
The name just kills me, it’s too darn cute for words. Try saying Sea Monstr Sushi fast … more …
I am becoming a bigger fan of intimate restaurants with warm atmospheres whom serve simple yet mouth watering creations. If you happen to be in the mood for one, I suggest Nook, nestled on Denman Street just off of Robson. They do not take reservations therefore suggesting that you try to get there before 7 pm. I would also suggest going in with 3 other friends so you can share several dishes in one sitting.
You definitely need to try one of their homemade pizzas, (after tasting one, you may want to take one to go). Don’t forget to check out the “Specials” chalk board. I ended up having the “Burrata on Toasted Bread” which was to die for and “Fresh Fig (from a farm in Langley) paired with Prosciutto”. I … more …
Whistler is a short drive from the city and a perfect little weekend getaway for the city slicker. There’s no snow at the base right now but there’s still a lot of fun summer activities to partake in.

A colleague of mine recommended a new noshing spot called the Twisted Fork Bistro, located on Granville Street, Vancouver BC. This quaint resto with rustic decor serves up simple, classic french dishes. If you plan on a weekend brunch, be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. Their brunch menu is $11 for everything and you can get bottomless french press coffee for $3. Their ketchup is homemade and their freshly made jams are also sold by the jar. Shall I continue?
Be prepared to eat, their portions are generous. Their banana stuffed brioche french toast is so generous I truly think it’s made for two and the Gruyere baked eggs with sourdough toast is simply delicious.
