I am becoming a bigger fan of intimate restaurants with warm atmospheres whom serve simple yet mouth watering creations. If you happen to be in the mood for one, I suggest Nook, nestled on Denman Street just off of Robson. They do not take reservations therefore suggesting that you try to get there before 7 pm. I would also suggest going in with 3 other friends so you can share several dishes in one sitting.
You definitely need to try one of their homemade pizzas, (after tasting one, you may want to take one to go). Don’t forget to check out the “Specials” chalk board. I ended up having the “Burrata on Toasted Bread” which was to die for and “Fresh Fig (from a farm in Langley) paired with Prosciutto”. I … more …
The other night I attended a shopping event held at Obakki in conjunction with Fashion Magazine. For this one night they offered discounts on their new Fall 2010 collection pieces as will as steep discounts on their Spring 2010 collection. I was one lucky girl to have walked away with a gorgeous petal sleeve silk blouse for 75% off the regular tagged price.
That evening Rebecca Tay, Western Editor of Fashion Magazine also took the time out to review Fall/Winter 2010 trends with the eager crowd. Here is a summary of main points mentioned as well as what I saw at the store:

I had the pleasure of dining twice for my birthday at Oru Restaurant located in the newly opened Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. I have to admit, I was skeptical at first when I read it was a Pan Asian menu, but after enjoying an abundance of perfectly executed shared dishes, I was quickly converted into a fan.
Firstly the space is stunning with floor to ceiling windows, looking out into Coal Harbour and the North Shore Mountain range. They have chef’s table seating for large parties as well as a closed off private room if you are looking for something more intimate. I was particularity taken buy the hand folded Origami light structure that spanned along the ceiling, a unique touch to their interior design.

Scandinavian cocktails, cashmere blankets and no choice but to huddle up close for heat and warmth - sounds like the perfect date venue to me.
Welcome to Polar, a new underground lounge that just opened its doors in New York underneath Gramercy’s Marcel Hotel. A swanky ice den of sorts, you can sip on drinks like Operation Highjump (Reyka Icelandic Vodka, Frozen Grapes, White Grape Juice and Pear Eau de Vie) while sharing an appetizer like Truffle Egg Toast.
Tuck away by drawing down the curtains in a private VIP ice cave - decked with mirrors cozy couches, and plush pillows. Perfect for some not so private PDA.
Polar, at the Marcel, 201 E. 24th St, nr. Third Ave. reservations@nycpolar.com
